Anglican Chapel, Cemetery Road (Grade II listed)
The Anglican Chapel, on Cemetery Road has long been in a state of severe dilapidation and in recent years its condition has deteriorated further. Sitting in the Marnock-landscaped General Cemetery, it was designed by Flockton and has been at the centre of controversy for 20 or more years. This was when a lease was taken out from Sheffield Council for a sum believed to have been around £30k. No major work has been done since then and the building is now in a dreadful state of repair and all the stained glass and panelling have gone.
The urgent repairs needed are to the roof and stone work and the Conservation Advisory Group’s (CAG) concerns are that experts would not be used as such a building must be restored in a professional way.
