Our photo shows the new life of the Earl of Wharncliffe’s town house, which was also his Estate Office. Dating back to 1885 it features in Pevsner and is a real eye-catcher.

The new tenants have signed a lease for 10 years on the ground floor, lower ground floor and basement, and you can now pop in for a cup of their excellent coffee.

Foundry Coffee Roasters is their name, and they not only sell coffee but everything else coffee orientated including equipment and speciality coffee beans.

For many years the building was used as offices but the upper floors have now been converted to residential.

I’m sure that the old Earl would be pleased that his fine house has reverted to what it should be, with the added bonus of the permanent smell of fresh coffee – or as they say ‘wake-up and smell it!
