This won’t affect you unless you happen to live on Marlborough Road or are a student without a bus pass, but we thought we’d mention it anyway.

Two sports pitches on Whitham Road opposite Weston Park Hospital have been there forever but one of them is about to be lost (how long before the other one goes as well?)

In their never-ending expansion, Sheffield University are planning to build a £45m Faculty of Social Sciences on the site where you’ll be able to study politics, sociology and economics – should you so wish. The new four storey building is to be of the usual University’s architectural standards and far too top heavy and overhanging. The high walls on Northumberland Road would normally have hidden it, but they are unfortunately wanting to lower the walls which we think is a bad idea.

The rear elevations of the Victorian houses on Marlborough Road are rather pleasant when viewed from Whitham Road but these will be lost, as will be the residents’ outlooks. Students who currently use the pitches can easily walk there and they have been told they will be able to use the shiny new ones at Warminster Road, Norton. Hardly walking distance.
